Jason P. Waxman

Corporate Vice President & General Manager, Datacenter Solutions Group, Intel

Jason P. Waxman is a corporate vice president in the Data Center Group and general manager of the Datacenter Solutions Group (DSG). DSG’s objective is to develop and deliver innovative solutions that are of high customer value, easy to deploy, and are cost efficient. In collaboration with the Enterprise & Government, Comms, and Cloud business units, DSG provides a well-coordinated solutions approach across development, business plans, and implementation, addressing each sectors unique requirements. Examples include Intel’s datacenter autonomous driving, software defined infrastructure, big data analytics and artificial intelligence, non-volatile memory, genomics, rack scale design, and network function virtualization solutions.

Waxman joined Intel in 1997 and has held several roles in cloud, enterprise, and data center computing. Before leading the Datacenter Solutions Group, Waxman was general manager of the Cloud Platforms Group where he managed Intel’s business, products, and technologies for cloud service providers. Prior to that, Waxman was general manager of high-density computing and led the definition and introduction in enterprise of Intel Xeon platforms. Before coming to Intel, Waxman worked in strategic planning and manufacturing for Emerson Electric as a management consultant.

Waxman is an industry advocate for standards in data center computing, including board roles in the Open Compute Foundation and the Server System Infrastructure Forum. He initiated Intel's role as technical advisor to the Open Data Center Alliance. He is involved in non-profit charities and acts as a trustee to the Oregon Health and Sciences University and a board member for the Boys and Girls Club. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, a master's degree in operations research, and an MBA degree, all from Cornell University.

Scott :

Scott has been with Accenture for more than 25 years where he has held numerous leadership positions within Accenture’s Technology Innovation & Ecosystem practice.

In his current role, Scott is responsible for driving Accenture’s Microsoft business globally. He has worked on some of the largest and most complex Microsoft programs with a focus on business transformation. He is tasked with expanding Accenture’s Microsoft business across Accenture’s key industry segments and geographies, continuing to deliver new and innovative business solutions.

Previously, Scott has led high profile engagements, primarily with Accenture’s Communications and High Tech clients. His work included formulating and implementing product, technology and operating strategies.

Prior to joining Accenture, Scott served as a submarine officer in the US Navy. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering. He also holds an MBA from the University of Washington. He is based in Seattle.

Patrick :

Pat Cimprich is an Executive and the Global Cloud Architect for Avanade’s Cloud Market Unit with responsibility for the portfolio of offerings that Avanade uses to help clients adopt cloud technologies. He engages with clients to understand their business priorities, and determine how cloud technologies can help them unlock greater value. Pat collaborates with the Avanade field as well as Accenture, Microsoft and many of our technology partners and customers to understand the fast pace of change in the cloud market and how those technologies can be applied to solve customer needs.

CORD - Transforming Operator Networks and Business Models

CORD™ is an open source platform taking the telecom industry by storm, so much so that HeavyReading recently predicted that fully 40% of all subscribers will be running on CORD within 5 years.

Timon Sloane

Vice President Marketing & Ecosystem, Open Networking Foundation (ONF)

Timon Sloane is the vice president of standards and membership of the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) leading the organization’s efforts with SDN standards, skills certification, and membership. In his role as vice president of standards, Timon’s primary focus is to drive activities within the organization relating to the OpenFlow® standard, bridging standards activities and open source initiatives to bring efforts in both areas under a single umbrella. Timon also leads efforts relating to the ONF-Certified SDN Professional (OCSP) Program to build and enhance the worldwide footprint of the ONF’s skills certifications. Timon works closely with current and potential ONF membership to ensure that the full community is working together towards a common goal of accelerating the adoption of SDN.

Prior to this new role, Timon provided product and management consulting services to numerous technology firms, most recently with Ericsson where he was driving product strategy for the networking product lines. His prior experience also includes executive roles in product management, marketing and engineering for firms such as Matisse Networks, Extreme Networks, NET, FlowWise and SCO. Timon received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

John Gilmartin

General Manager & Vice President of Integrated Systems BU, VMware

John Gilmartin leads VMware’s Integrated Systems Business Unit product management and marketing organization. He rejoined VMware in January 2013 as vice president of products, Storage and Availability. Prior to that, Gilmartin served as vice president of Marketing at Coraid, a storage start up developing a scale-out, distributed system for cloud and big data architectures. Before joining Coraid, he led the product marketing team for VMware's virtualization platform, VMware vSphere, developing go-to-market, partnering, and pricing strategies that helped grow the business to over $1B in license revenue. In earlier roles, Gilmartin served as a brand manager for enterprise servers at Dell, Inc., and as a strategy consultant at Marakon Associates advising clients on corporate and business unit strategy.

Gilmartin holds a B.S.E from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Mohan Kalkunte

Vice President of Architecture and Technology, Core Switch Products Business Unit, Broadcom

Mohan Kalkunte is the Vice President of Architecture and Technology in the Core Switch Products Business Unit at Broadcom Ltd. As the Head of the Architecture and Technology group, Mohan is responsible for the development of multiple flagship Ethernet Switching chips that span Small, Medium, Enterprise, Data Center and Service Provider markets. Mohan has over 29 years of experience in the field of networking, communications and semiconductors.

Mohan is a named inventor of over 120 patents. A former Broadcom Corporation Fellow, Mohan is also an IEEE Fellow and has several publications. He received his Ph.D in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Ohio State University in 1988.

Critical Roles in Accelerating Network Transformation

Cloud, Social, Mobile and Video proliferation continues to drive exponential data traffic growth on CSP’s networks. IoT will put further demands on the networks as we embark to connect 50B ‘things’ by 2020. Applications like VR will have a multiplier effect on required network throughput. Self-driving cars and auto-pilot-drones will push the network’s limits to drastically lower its latency. Varying IoT business cases and use-cases will put dynamic pricing demands on the network. New, consumption based business models will become the norm.

James Jau

Vice President of Research and Development, QCT

James Jau is the Vice President of Research and Development of QCT. He has more than 25 years of experience in server-related designs, and is responsible for all the research, development, management, and product planning for QCT’s cloud computing products, including server, storage, network switch, and rack systems. James previously worked in various hardware designs and leadership roles at Wang Laboratory, Digital Equipment Corp. and HTC. He received his master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University and his bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering from Taiwan’s National Tsing Hua University, the top university in the technology field in Taiwan.

Software Defined Data Center for Private and Hybrid Clouds

Software defined data centers (SDDC) were first introduced in public clouds deployed by hyperscale players for scalability, agility, control and efficiency advantages. QCT will share its view of extending the SDDC principles to private and hybrid clouds and also its current collaborations and co-engineered projects with industry leading virtualization technology providers. Private and hybrid cloud adopters are looking to acquire fully integrated, tested, and certified hardware and software from a single source with significant end user benefits including ease of deployment, faster time-to-value, and fully integrated and optimized rack level solutions. Jen-Yao Chung

Associate Vice President, QCT

Dr. Jen-Yao Chung is an Associate VP, Research and Development within Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT). He works with global cloud virtualization software providers, global professional service companies and hardware manufactures to create hyper converged cloud solutions. He leads the design and development for Software Defined Storage and Big Data Solutions. He manages the QCT worldwide Cloud Solution Centers (US, Taiwan, and Germany) design and deployment. His current focus is in the design and development of Azure hybrid clouds and hardware-as-a-service. Dr. Chung received his Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is an IEEE Fellow, a Distinguished Engineer of ACM, and Member of IBM’s Academy of Technology.

Taka Oshima

Taka Oshima is VP and general manager of APAC of Affirmed Networks. He was most recently VP and general manager of APAC at Sonus Networks. Taka led Sonus business in APAC region, established the team from the scratch, and accomplished various large network projects. Rajesh Gadiyar

Sr. Director of Architecture & Systems Engineering, Network Platforms Group, Intel

Rajesh Gadiyar is the Sr. Director of Architecture & Systems Engineering in the Network Platforms Group at Intel. He is focused on driving a scalable and efficient architecture for next generation communications platforms. He leads the architecture efforts to accelerate Network Function Virtualization (NFV).

Since joining Intel in 2000, he has held several positions in Engineering, Professional Services, Strategic Planning and Architecture. Prior to joining Intel, he led various engineering teams at Trillium Digital Systems and Wipro Ltd. He brings several years of experience in networking products, architecture, protocols, standards and software development for Voice over IP, cellular, broadband, mobile telephony and data networks. He represents Intel in standard committees such as ATIS TOPS council and TIA and is a TSC member of the Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP) initiative under Linux Foundation. He is a regular speaker at industry events and forums. Rajesh has a B.S. in Electronics and Telecommunications engineering from National Institute of Technology, Trichy, India and an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management.

OPNFV: The Foundation for Virtualized Networking Across Multiple End-to-End Open Networking Stacks

The Open Platform for Network Functions Virtualization (OPNFV) project facilitates the development and evolution of NFV components across various open source ecosystems. Through system level integration, deployment and testing, OPNFV creates a reference NFV platform to accelerate the transformation of enterprise and service provider networks. The project has become the only platform the brings together elements across multiple end-to-end open networking stacks.

In addition to an introductory overview of OPNFV, project director Heather Kirksey will outline recent progress in building a functional Virtual Central Office (VCO) proof of concept demo that depicts both business and residential services that, when virtualized, ultimately yield service agility, cost reduction and improved customer experience. Kirksey will also cover the upcoming OPNFV Compliance and Verification Program (CVP), detailing how OPNFV and its upstream communities are coming together—with input from global service providers, standardization organizations and other end users—to deliver a compliance testing program for the entire NFVI ecosystem.

Heather Kirksey

Vice President of NFV and Director, OPNFV, The Linux Foundation

As OPNFV Director, Heather Kirksey works with the community to advance the adoption and implementation of open source NFV platform. She oversees and provides guidance for all aspects of the project, from technology to community and marketing and reports to OPNFV board of directors. Before Joining the Linux Foundation, Kirksey led strategic technology alliances for MongoDB. Earlier in her career she held various leadership positions in the telecom industry including running a partner program for CPE, doing solutions marketing for the IP Division at Alcatel-Lucent, business development, and participating in numerous standards activities. She received her master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Texas, Austin.

Alan Chang

Product Marketing Manager, QCT

Alan Chang has over 10 years of IT experience in both the hardware and software fields . He joined Quanta in 2010 and is currently the Product Marketing Manager for QCT, in charge of defining QCT’s product strategy. His team is responsible for the QCT server lines (QuantaGrid/QuantaPlex/QuantaMicro) and Rack solutions (Open Rack, OCS Rack) which includes their planning and go-to-market execution. Graduating from the University of California, Riverside with a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, his contributions to the industry include an extended 5 year roadmap for next wave and enterprise customers.

From Opened Control Plane to Programmable Data Plane

White box switches are a phenomenon in mega-scale data centers that disaggregate the networking hardware and software based on open and standard interfaces to prevent proprietary vendor lock in. This describes the “so called” opened control plane on white box switches. The next tide after the open control plane is the programmable data plane that makes a single SKU switch box a building block that can be deployed in different scenarios of applications through the field’s programmable data plane.

Peter Wei

Vice President of Business Operations, Integrated Systems BU, VMware

Peter Wei leads Business Operations at VMware’s Integrated Systems Business Unit (ISBU). In this role, he is responsible for all sales, business development, deployment and operations of all products created by ISBU. Prior to joining ISBU, Peter had leadership roles in other Business Units within VMware since 2007, including SDDC Product Marketing, vSphere Product Management, and Strategy and Planning roles. He also did a brief stint in Beijing as a Group Manager for Field Marketing. Prior to VMware, Peter was an Associate at McKinsey and company. In earlier roles, Peter was a Business Development Manager at Cisco, and a Software Engineer at IBM. Brent Compton

Senior Director Storage Solution Architectures, Red Hat

Brent Compton is Senior Director Storage Solution Architectures at Red Hat, leading the team responsible for building Ceph and Gluster reference architectures with hardware and software partners across the industry. Before Red Hat, Brent was responsible for emerging non-volatile memory software technologies at Fusion-io. Previous enterprise software leadership roles include VP Product Management at Micromuse (now IBM Tivoli Netcool) and Product Marketing Director within HP’s OpenView software division. Within enterprise IT, Brent also served as Director Middleware Development Platforms at the LDS Church and as CIO at Joint Commission International.
