Assisting Taiwanese Enterprises in Deploying Enterprise 5G Private Networks

Taoyuan, Taiwan, January 4, 2021 - Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT), a global data center solution provider, independently developed Taiwan’s first 5G standalone (SA) core network, which recently passed interoperability and performance verifications for 5G Open Network Lab operated by Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). The core network was successfully connected to partner radio access networks (RAN) and third-party user equipment, realizing end-to-end 5G signal transmission from edge to core and achieving significant acceleration in both uplink and downlink speeds.

As business opportunities brought by 5G rollouts manifest, numerous 5G open platforms have emerged, providing an excellent opportunity for Taiwan to enter  this market. Targeting the business opportunities around open radio access network (O-RAN), Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) offers various assistive measures to encourage Taiwanese vendors to develop white box-based open 5G private network solutions. The goal is to build a “5G National Team” to tap into the international telecommunication market, to bring Taiwan’s ICT industry to the next level.

To help Taiwanese vendors keep up with international standards, the Industrial Development Bureau, MOEA, collaborated with ITRI and world-leading vendors to build a 5G Open Network Lab, which serves as a 5G network testing bed, inviting vendors to build their teams and propose comprehensive solutions for interoperability testing aimed for commercial use. The platform also serves as an incubation R&D center by working closely with international open network organizations such as the O-RAN Alliance and Telecom Infra Project. By bridging local vendors with overseas buyers, Taiwanese network and communication equipment providers can obtain more 5G telecommunication equipment orders to enter the global network communications market.

Following the success of being the sole hardware provider to Rakuten Mobile’s world’s first cloud-native and fully virtualized mobile network, QCT once again takes the lead in the industry by delivering a highly available and reliable 5G SA core network that complies with 3GPP Release 15, enabling enterprises to innovate advanced 5G applications and expedite industrial transformation. In addition to core network hardware, this 5G SA solution is also equipped with an OAM (operation, administration and management) software package, providing a convenient user interface required for commercial adoption.

“QCT takes the lead to deliver a 5G SA private network solution, with end-to-end integration spanning from core to radio access network,” QCT President, Mike Yang said, “The progress that we’ve achieved while passing verifications with a government-supported platform is an exciting news to system integrators and enterprise clients who anticipate 5G to accelerate their digital transformation. With the adoption of enterprise 5G penetrating the market significantly in 2021, QCT will continue striving in enterprise private network technologies and products as well as seeking more market opportunities. Together with ecosystem partners, we look to democratize 5G private networks in Taiwan.”

Mr. Jiunn-Shiow Lin, a division director from the Industrial Development Bureau indicated, “O-RAN disrupts the originally closed ecosystem of telecom equipment, allowing more new vendors to be included in its supply chain.  QCT achieved a new level of technical expertise by proposing Taiwan’s first 5G SA private network solution, realizing 5G’s benefits of ultra high bandwidth and ultra low latency. What’s more impressive, the entire solution is made in Taiwan, demonstrating strong manufacturing and integration capabilities of local vendors.  We expect such a high-quality solution to be a good example for other vendors seeking to grab the international market and pave the road for an upgrade of the local ICT industry.”

During several years of engaging with the telecom industry, QCT has evolved itself from a pure equipment vendor to a solution provider. Based on its experience of working with international ISVs and its own expertise on virtualization platforms accumulated in the data center domain, QCT delivers a comprehensive 5G solution for enterprises, which can drastically shorten the deployment time required for private networks and accelerate the realization of digital transformation. With the imminent 5G boom, QCT is ready for this multi-billion-dollar market.
