QCT Showcases Rackgo X-RSD, Hyper-converged Datacenter Design Innovations at IDF16

New product introduces next-generation datacenter design, focused on efficiency, openness and manageability

SAN FRANCISCO // August 16, 2016 – A long-standing contributor to open source datacenter design, Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT) today unveiled at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF16) at Moscone Convention Center its next generation of open source and hyper-converged datacenter rack design.

QCT is a global hyperscale datacenter solution provider. The company’s products are designed to deliver the benefits of hyperscale performance in standard SKUs for customers of all sizes.

Rackgo X-RSD incorporates Intel® Rack Scale Design and introduces a new platform from QCT for highly scalable, rapidly deployable, ultra-efficient and easy-to-manage datacenter building blocks. The complete building blocks of disaggregated networking, compute and storage hardware in composable pools enable incremental and more efficient cloud resource provisioning. One high-density, 2U, four-node, OCP-inspired "Leopard Snow" provides multiple compute sled options (powered by the Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2600 v4 product family and Intel® Xeon® Processor D product family) with an integrated switch for different application workloads. In addition, "Knoxville," a QCT hybrid storage server featuring the powerful and efficient Intel® Xeon® Processor D product family, can support up to 28x LFF drives and 4x high-performance NVMe SSD drives, delivering an outstanding tiered storage capability.

Designed on the Open Compute Project (OCP) rack specification, Rackgo X-RSD features a resource location identifier, centralized power and cooling optimization and a single, simpler management tool (POD Manager) that is ideal for service providers running IT operations on a variety of platforms. Service providers running Rackgo X-RSD gain a standards-based rack system equipped to accelerate service delivery, improve efficiency and enable simple, transparent management of diverse datacenter resources.

At the three-day IDF16 conference, QCT will present live demonstrations of Rackgo X-RSD in its booth (#525). Demonstrations will include the RSD API, which enables operators to implement programmable datacenter operations. QCT will also show an integration of RSD with OpenStack, and the QCT System Manager(QSM).

Also today, the following QCT products made their U.S. debut:

  • QuantaPlex S41T-2U, the game-changing server powered by the Intel® Xeon Phi™ processor. The QuantaPlex S41T-2U redefines high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure by lowering power consumption with exceptional performance, delivering a 40 percent increase in performance/watt/dollar compared to its GPU counterpart.

  • QuantaPlex T21SD-2U, a high-availability cluster-in-a-box storage server. With support for the Intel® SSD DC D3700 series—dual port PCIe SSDs that utilize the NVMe specification and allow two hosts to access the same drive concurrently—the QuantaPlex T21SD-2U enables redundancy features such as multi-path and failover. The configuration significantly increases 3.1x to 3.5x system IOPS in 4K random read and random write for mission-critical and cache-oriented applications.

  • QuantaVault JB2720, a performance-boosting, high-density, and all-flash-array JBOD that grants instant access and dramatically lower latency to SAS and SATA SSD. Combined with the features of dual-path access, no single-point-of-failure and individual drive power-on/off, the JB2720 ensures enterprise-class storage systems.

"QCT has emerged as a leader in the engineering and design of hyper-converged cloud datacenter hardware,” said Mike Yang, president, QCT. “Working closely with Intel and with key open source communities, we have given enterprises and service provider customers a wide range of choices in deploying hyper-converged infrastructure, so they can find precisely what fits their unique scaling and application portfolio needs.”

“Intel® Rack Scale Design is re-architecting today’s data centers to provide significant improvements in efficiency, manageability and performance across the diverse and ever-increasing demands of user workloads,” said Charlie Wuischpard, vice president and general manager of the Scalable Data Center Solutions Group at Intel Corporation. “With an Intel® RSD implementation, coupled with Intel’s latest technology innovations, QCT’s new Rackgo X-RSD platform is a novel solution for deploying and operating hyper-converged infrastructure.”
