Quanta QCT Prepares to Ship Future Intel® Atom™ Processor (codenamed Centerton) Based Microserver Delivering Extreme Low Power, High-Density Specifications
At less than 10 watts per server node and up to 48 nodes per 3U chassis, the latest addition to Quanta QCT’s microserver lineup is among the most power and space efficient datacenter solutions available.
FREMONT, Calif. – September 6, 2012 /PRWeb/ – Quanta QCT, a leading manufacturer of server, storage and network equipment for datacenter customers in the United States, will ship by year end a microserver that will be among the most power and space efficient designs available for dedicated web hosting, cloud computing and hyperscale computing in the datacenter.
The STRATOS S900-X31A is a 24 or 48 node server in a 3U chassis. Based on the forthcoming Intel® Atom™ based processor - codenamed Centerton and consuming less than 10 watts per server node, the STRATOS S900-X31A offers dramatically improved performance per watt, dollar and square foot compared to traditional 1U 1-socket server.
Quanta QCT is presenting two demonstration units of the new microserver next week at the Intel® Developer Forum in San Francisco, in booth 130.
The STRATOS S900-X31A is the second server in Quanta QCT’s microserver lineup. In June, Quanta QCT announced the STRATOS S910-X31B, which offers 9 or 12 server nodes in a 3U chassis and is based on the Intel® Xeon® processor E3-1200/E3-1200 v2.

Key features of the STRATOS S900-X31A include configurations for 12 or 24 cable-free sleds that are hot-pluggable and independently operable. There are two server nodes per sled, and each 3U chassis houses 24 or 48 nodes. Each node supports up to 16 GB of memory, two 2.5” SATA HDDs and two GbE RJ45 ports. Leveraging capabilities of Centerton, the servers offer 64-bit support and ECC memory, and as noted earlier, consume less than 10 watts per node.
All server nodes share one console port and two 10 GbE SFP+ ports. The design allows users to attach one network cable to a dedicated management port and manage all nodes in the microserver. This simplifies cabling and remote management while reducing costs by eliminating unnecessary top-of-rack switches and network cabling.
